GALLERIA GUENZANI Milan 2003
An heavy renovation transformed a mechanic’s workshop into “Galleria Guenzani”, a contemporary art gallery.
It is formed by two spaces: first one is for exhibitions and it is a “white box” formed by walls and light, to give artists freedom to create every kind of installation (floor resists over 800 kg/squared meter of weight) and to allow spectators full immersion; second one is a more reserved, partly half-light space, characterized by an unfinished ceiling to remember the laboratory’s previous use.
The exhibition part has wide windows toward south with glazed anti-reflection glass to optimize daylight diffusion on art pieces and artificial recessed lamps in the ceiling to make uniform light during the night.
The second part, has a pictures deposit, a mezzanine with a “navy” stair and a Garutti’s art work set in the concrete floor. A big wall-diaphragm, 10 cm thick, revolving on bronze ball bearing, creates separation or permeability between the two parts of the gallery and allows big art works going through it.
Everything has been custom designed.
