29 ARTS IN PROGRESS GALLERY Milan 2015

The project here illustrated is a restyling realized for the new gallery of 29 arts in progress Ltd, a London-based full service company active in the production, organization, and implementation of permanent and temporary exhibitions of artistic and cultural value.

The gallery is located in the centre of Milan, in the historical Sant’Ambrogio area.

The space, that in the past used to be a grocery deposit, then a laboratory and more recently a kindergarten, has been made functional art pieces’ exhibition and enjoyment.

This has been made possible through a careful subtraction of all elements that could have conditioned both art pieces setting and spectator’s enjoyment.

The method has been creating a “white box”, without erase the three levels floor that is an interesting feature of the space.

To obtain a neutral, well-lighted and functional shell, works in project were the followings:

existing niches removal to get a continuous planar vertical surface; a clear grey, semi-matt finished, concrete-resin floor coating on the former ceramic tiles, to balance light reflection;

previous skirting board removal; mezzanine black varnished structure, stair and bannister has been white painted to be “seen less “; heathers were concealed behind white smooth wood panels.

Light has been the project’s leading theme, creating a versatile system able to add value to all the art pieces: paintings, drawings, ceramics, pictures and sculptures.

In these pictures is the master photographer Gian Paolo Barbieri exhibition, and, then after that, pictures from the gallery opening art exhibition: “POPcellana”, ceramics created by artist Francesco De Molfetta.
